چکیده مقاله:

Learning styles are one of the factors affecting students learning and achievement and understanding them causes any person to adopt a more appropriate learning style. In this respect, the aim of the present study is to investigate the relationship between learning styles and athletes’ mental toughness. The research method is functional in terms of purpose and descriptive correlational with respect to its nature. The statistical population included all student-athletes of the University of Tehran; the sample included 210 male and female students (male: 124, female: 86) who were randomly selected and studied. Measuring instruments consisted of demographic questions, Kolb Learning Style Inventory, and mental toughness questionnaire. The results showed that the highest averages of learning styles of all students belong, respectively, to the assimilating (42%), converging (23%), diverging (16%) and accommodating (19%) styles, with the dominant style in most sports being the assimilating one. Besides, we observed a positive correlation between the accommodating learning style and mental toughness. Given the findings of this research, which suggests that most learners use respectively the assimilating and converging styles, it is recommended that dramatic and one-on-one training methods be adopted so as to facilitate a better and faster learning.
