چکیده مقاله:

Oxytocin is a small peptide composed of 9 amino acids and has a molecular weight of 1007 Daltons. This hormone has various physiological roles and its secretion is hypothalamus. This hormone is commonly associated with milk withdrawal reflex. Oxytocin also acts as a neurotransmitter and paracrine substance in the brain. In addition, it plays roles in men, rats, rabbits and as an effective factor in sexual behaviors. Studies have shown that this hormone can affect the reproductive capacity of some male animals, including the number and quality of sperm. In this study, the effect of oxytocin hormone on sperm count in male mice was investigated. The present study was conducted on 20 male mice (30g weight) into two groups (10 mice in each group). The first group received oxytocin hormone (0/01mg/kg) intraperitoneally and the second group received the placebo for 5 courses every 48 hours. At the end of the treatment, the animals were euthanized and the tail of epididymis was extracted to count the sperms. Data were analyzed by SPSS statistical software. The results of this study showed that the number of sperms in the two groups was significantly different and the number of sperms receiving the oxytocin hormone group increased compared to the control group (p<0/05). Generally, the results of this study showed that oxytocin hormone increased the number of sperms. Therefore, it is recommended that this hormone could be considered as an effective factor in male fertility by further studies.
