Effect of Cobalt radiation on the Rat brain

Radiation induced changes in brain of wistar rats were observed Wistar rats weighing 160 to 180 gr were used.Rats were randomly divided into groups of each. Three groups were irradiated with Gy. 7.5 Gy and 12 Gy respectively. The third group served as normal control, These findings demonstrate dosage dependent changes in different parts of the brain tissue ,Histopathological studies of the central nervous system revealed irradiated-produced lesions early after exposure with congestion and edema, more significant and irreversible changes included gliosis, necrosis of neurons and vacuoles which were more pronounced in the subcortical regions
