The commercialization of an image of one institution, company or an individual has been strongly linked with the application of social media. The advanced features of this online platform help to increase the popularity and market the image of that particular person or company where it can be determined through the number of likes, shares and comments obtained by the followers. In order to increase the engagement, the investigation on the effective strategies of writing in social media in English precisely, is conducted where the term ‘effective’ refers to the strategies that obtained high number of likes in social media. Therefore, this recent study is going to investigate the components of English writing strategies and to identify the effective English writing strategies in the university’s Facebook. Four official and unofficial university’s Facebook Pages are used in order to compare the use of English writing strategies and identify the most effective ones through content analysis and semi-structured interview. The data is collected in duration of 7 months which was starting from January 2016 until July 2016. As the results, there are six main components of the effective English writing identified which are text type, the use of word choice, the use pictures and video, hashtags, paralinguistic cues and lastly non-linguistic effective features offered in social media. In this study, the model of effective English writing strategies has been formed with 80% of them involves linguistic strategies and the rest is the non-linguistic strategies where it can be a platform for the writers to improve and increase the engagement of the students with the organization.
