The frequency of HSV in semen of fertile and infertile men in Shiraz, Southwest of Iran

Introduction and Objectives:Semen infections are frequently present even in asymptomatic males, and they are often associated with poor sperm quality. Data on the prevalence of herpesviruses infection in semen are variable among different studies. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the frequency of HSV infection in infertile men in comparison with fertile semen.Material and methods:In this study 150 semen sample of fertile and 150 semen‟s sample of infertile men consecutively were include. All samples subjected to commercial DNA extraction. The presence of HSV genomic DNA in extracted samples was analyzed by using in house PCR assay.Result: Mean age of fertile men was 34.5 and mean of age for infertile men was 34.4 .in our study none of the semen samples of infertile and fertile men were positive for the presence of HSV DNA. Conclusion:According to our results HSV DNA was not found in any of semen samples which were not support any role of HSV infection in men infertility.
