Therapeutic Abortion: Ensuring the Life, Physical and Mental Health of MothersAccording to the Islamic Jurisprudents

Siqt janin (abortion) is defined as any intentional or unintentional act performed upon a pregnant woman compromising the life or foetal development of an unborn baby. Initial positions and rulings of jurisprudents differ in regard to abortion in the first four months of pregnancy. Under normal circumstances, all Islamic jurisprudents deem abortion after inspiration of the soul forbidden. Is abortion, under emergencies and where the life of the mother or her health is in danger permissible Can an innocent woman who is raped and as a result has become pregnant abort the baby Or she has to tolerate this hardship and raise an illegitimate child which has no position in the family nor in thesociety. Most jurisprudents accepted the permissibility of the abortion in life of the mother, danger to her mental or physical health, or afertilized egg due to rape that leads to constriction. Some other jurisprudents have permitted the abortion after inspiration ofsoul and some others have not.
