In the process of language learning and teaching, textbooks always play a very important role. Most of teachers enter class with a text book that provide content and teaching/learning activities that shape much of what happens in the classroom. Whether the teachers are free to select material for their class or not, textbook evaluation is usually done and no one can deny it. The main aim of the present research is to carry out an evaluation on ELT material namely Prospect 1 which was prepared by Ministry of General Education as an instructional material for grade seventh students in Iran, the new textbook that is consider to be the foundation stone in the English language program in Iran, to evaluate how much these textbook meets criterion of good EFL book and how well the books match the syllabus goal of modeling CLT method. For these purpose researcher will use a checklist which extracted from Rubdy (2003) and Cunningsworth (1995) EFL/ESL textbook evaluation checklists. And it has three sections: psychological validity, pedagogical validity, process and content validity. The checklist rated by 50 EFL teachers. The finding shows that the book has only 43% of psychological validity, 45% of pedagogical validity and 44% of process and content validity. The findings of this study offer convincing evidence that the New English language textbook that is currently taught at junior high schools in Iran do not meet the teachers’ expectations.
