The effect of the type of emulsifier on the properties of oil in water emulsion

Hydrocarbon resources are very important given that they account for approximately 65% of the world’s overall energy resources.Transportation of heavy carbohydrate through conventional pipelines, tankers, and barges cannot be accomplished practically without decrease in its viscosity. In order to reduce the viscosity of the heavy crude, it is suggested to mix it with water and optimum emulsifiers to create a lower viscous fluid, oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions. In this study,O/W emulsion prepared by using the constant oil content of the emulsion at its optimum value 65 wt%, the other conditions were a temperature of 65 ◦C, pH of 2,a mixing speed of5000rpm and a mixing duration of 10min. The different sort of emulsifier was used. Bioemulsifier from Bacillus licheniformis strain and two chemical emulsifier,Tween 80 and stabiram 4582, and mixing of bioemulsifier and chemical emulsifiers. These emulsions were tested for relative rates of percent of bioemulsifier and emulsifier, viscosity of Brookfield viscometer. viscosity of heavy crud oil reduce 90% and use of biological emulsifier instead of chemical emulsifier is an environmentallyfriendly approach but using mix of emulsifiers has the potential to reduce viscosity to 95% and increase emulsion stability to several days.
