چکیده مقاله:

For study a characteristics of pattern flow in 60º strongly-curved bend in open channels, a vast experimental study was done. Flow pattern in a 60º sharp bend experimentally and numerically are investigated in this study. In the numerical study, the Fluent model by K-ε (RNG) turbulence model was used to predict the turbulence, and the volume of fluid (VOF) method to simulate the velocity distribution and free surface. The models performances are evaluated by different statistical error indexes. The results show that the root mean square error (RMSE) and mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) values between the experimental and FLUENT results for depth-averaged velocity (DAV) are 4.5 and 9%, respectively, which is an acceptable error percentage. By the expansion of the major and minor secondary flows, it can be seen that in sections located 40 cm after the bend longitudinal velocity shift and the high-velocity zone moves further towards the outer wall and the channel bed in depth. The fluent model can be used in practical cases in curved channel.
