چکیده مقاله:
Objective: Arabian carpet shark (Chiloscyllium arabicum) is a benthic and oviparous species that its distribution restricted to Persian Gulf. Morphological structure of urogenital system in different groups of fish varies greatly.
Method & Materials: This study was carried out on 30 normal, mature and same size male sharks with 59.33 ± 1.76 cm average total length and
541.4 ± 44.8 g average weight. After biometrical study, the urogenital system including left and right kidneys, ureters and uretral process and also testes were dissected and examined morphometrically. For detailed studies, the samples were taken from cranial, middle and caudal portion of kidneys, ureter, uretral process and different regions of testes. Then tissues were fixed in Bouin's solution, processed by standard paraffin embedding methods and stained with H&E and PAS.
Results & Conclusion: Gross morphological results showed that kidneys were located in retroperitoneal position up against the ventral aspect of the vertebral column and extended in the length of abdominal cavity. The length of kidneys was 20-25 percent of total body length. The left and right kidneys were completely separate. The cranial portion of kidneys were light, while their caudal portion were dark brown and the uretral process open in the cloac. Histological studies showed that kidneys consisted of excretory portion (renal corpuscles and urinary tubules) and haematopoitic lymphoid tissues. The aboundance and distribution of haematopoitic lymphoid tissues were varied in different part of kidney. Urinary tubules consisted of neck, proximal, distal and collecting tubule segment that the histological structures of these segments were differ from each other. The cranial portion of the kidney serves as an epididymis. Testes were comprised of a series of seminiferous tubules which are lined with spermatogenic epithelium. At finally, it can be concluded that there is a considerable variation in gross morphology and histology of urogenital system of this species compared with other fishes
