چکیده مقاله:

Objective: The genus Aloe belongs to the family Liliaceae, including the species Aloe barbadensis Miller, commercially known as Aloevera. It is widely used as a natural treatment and alternative therapy for various types of diseases, and several studies have suggested the healing, cosmetic, and nutritional benefits of this vegetable. This study carried out on 150 common carps (100- 150 g) to evaluate the healing effect of Aloe-vera on induced surgical wounds in fish skin. Method & Materials: Fish were anesthetized with MS222 and then 5 mm full thickness skin wounds in circular shape created with surgical punch biopsy in left side of each fish. The fish divided to five equal groups (30 fish in each group). Group 1 which received no treatment (control group), group 2 which received a permanent floating in 3% aloe-vera extract, group 3 which fed by mixed 5% aloe-vera extract, group 4 which received a short time bathing in 10% for 1 min) and group 5 which received a permanent floating in aloe-vera extract (10±0.5 mg/lit malachite green. Results & Conclusion: Water temperature was 25±1 in all aquariums during the experiment. Tissue samples were taken from the skin wounds at day 7, 14 and 21 from six fish in each time, fixed in formalin 10% and then processed by routine histological paraffin embedding method. The results showed that epithelization, degeneration of injured subepidermal compartment, formation of granulation tissue, angiogenesis and formation of scales were better in group 4 than other groups at the end of the experiment. In day 21, formation of normal epidermis, dermis and scale were observed in group 4 compared to the others. On the basis of these results it can be concluded that short time bathing with aloe-vera has positive effects on wound healing in fish but it seems that permanent floating of fish in aloe-vera may altered water qualities and food intake and indirectly has negative effects on wound healing. In order to achieve a more solid result further research is recommended.
