Implementation of the sustainability concepts in construction waste management

Sustainability seems to be the only solution to environmental problems. If the human population is tosurvive on earth, sustainability must be applied to every sector, such as construction, transportation andagriculture. Since the major energy consumer is the construction sector, it has a significant role tocontribute to sustainable development. There is always difference between the amount of materials whichare used in a construction site and the amount of the materials which must be used in the same site. Thisdifference is called waste. In this paper we consider the different aspects and reasons of material wastagein construction and we present basic principles, which sustainable construction must rely on. We believethat implementing sustainability concepts in construction resource and material management can preventwaste of material and it would enable us to have a sustainable waste management system in order to makethe earth a better place to live on.
