چکیده مقاله:
Water shortage and qualitative decrease of water sources andsoil in Iran are the major causes of decreased production.Drought (especially in recent years) has covered a vast part ofIran and caused a great concern among the farmers andofficials. In order to solve this problem, few strategies can besuggested. Taking long-term decision for increasing theefficiency of irrigation should be strongly suggested. At thesame time ways in which the customized irrigation isoptimized must be studied. An old way of irrigation in thecountry in large scale has been furrow irrigation.Unfortunately, no attempt has been made to optimize thismethod. Different designs for furrow irrigation are offered;the most important of them are: 1- SCS (Soil ConservationService) method, 2- FAO method, and 3- walker and skogerbomethod. The present study offers a design method that issuited according to environmental conditions and discussesthe results obtained from this study. Attempt was mad toidentify the efficient length of the furrow. Keeping these inmind, a study field in Amirabad farm of college of Agricultureat Birgand University was chosen. Because in furrowirrigation the slope gradient for land leveling slopedistribution is very important, preparing the land and levelingwas carefully done. Research focused on soil infiltration(Double ring and input - output methods), advancing time anddelaying time and measuring furrow cross section in differentsteps of the study. Results showed the possibility to improveefficient water use by the furrow irrigation technique.
