Effect of gender on the color selections of headscarf regarding wearers’ complexion

Colour harmony was investigated among different genders in the context of the headscarf wearers’ skin colour. A psychophysical experiment was carried out among Iranian students to find the most harmonious color pair regarding the combination of headscarf colour and different skin colours. Three types of skin colour were assessed in the research, namely Negro, Caucasian and Asian. The results show that even among the respondent with the same skin color, different genders selected considerably different colours as their headscarf color. It was shown that DE*ab, C*, and hue angle values of the skin and headscarf colors influence the colour selection, while their L* values has no considerable impact on the results. It was also concluded that the colour preference of the observers has an impact on the colour harmony concept.
