The Ottawa Ankle Rulcs (OAR) have been designed to reduce the number of unnecessary radiography ordered for these patients. The objective of this study was to validate OAR in the Traninn population. Methods & materials: This prospective survey was done among I00 patients u'ith acute ankle Injury in the Rascol Akram hospital enlergency department,50of them were Ottawa (+) and other fifty patients were Ottawa ( -). Main outcomc measuri of this survey was to determine sensitivity. specificity, positive predictive value ,negative predicitive value. Results: The sensitive of the OAR for detecting 12 midfood fractures (12%) was IOO%. The specificity of these rules for detecting fractures was 56%. The PPV was 24% and NPV was 100% . Conclusion: OARS are very accurate and highly sensitive for detecting midfoot fraclures. Implementation of these rules wou Id lead to significant reduction in the number- of radiographs, costs. and radiation exposured and waiting times in emergency departments.
