This review presents a comprehensive overview of the engineering design process for oil, gas, and petrochemical projects in ۲۰۲۵, from conceptual studies to commissioning. It covers stage-gate methodology, international standards, digital tools, net-zero imperatives, and real-world integration of carbon capture, electrification, modularization, and AI-assisted design. Emerging challenges-including supply-chain disruptions, talent shortages, regulatory delays, and financing risks for low-carbon technologies are critically analyzed with practical mitigation strategies. Drawing on recent megaprojects (Qatar NFE, Aramco Jafurah, BASF electric cracker), the study provides a forward-looking reference for achieving safe, efficient, and net-zero-compatible facilities amid the global energy transition.
