Dispersion of Oil Production Costs and Its Impact on Global Oil Prices: An Examination of Oil Production Challenges in Different Countries

Oil remains one of the essential energy resources in the world and one of the factors influencing the economic, political, and geopolitical developments of countries. Differences in geological conditions, extraction technology, production infrastructure, economic policies, and environmental factors have resulted in considerable variation in oil production costs across different countries. Accordingly, this study examined the dispersion of oil production costs and its impact on global oil prices by analyzing the production challenges faced by different producers in the energy market. This descriptive-analytical study was conducted using library research, international reports, and data related to the oil industry. The findings revealed that countries with easily accessible oil reserves and low extraction costs, such as some Middle Eastern producers, have greater competitive advantages and capacity to maintain production during periods of declining oil prices. In contrast, high-cost oil producers, particularly those operating in unconventional oil resources and complex fields, are more vulnerable to fluctuations in global prices. In addition, the cost structure of oil production can affect investment decisions, global supply levels, and, ultimately, global oil price trends. The findings emphasized that reducing production costs, developing technology, increasing operational efficiency, diversifying economies, and adapting to the energy transition are among the essential strategies for enhancing the resilience of oil-producing countries to changes in the global market.
