Human Dignity and Individual Liberty as Foundations of Stable Governance

The advancement and stability of regimes have consistently been among the most significant concerns of political thought throughout history. The fundamental question of this research is whether restricting individual liberties can lead to the consolidation of political power, or if the recognition of human dignity and fundamental freedoms is a prerequisite for sustainable development and political stability. Adopting an analytical-comparative approach, this article examines the relationship between the recognition of individual freedom and dignity, and the structural progress and durability of governments. The findings of this research indicate that guaranteeing fundamental rights including freedom of speech, the right to political participation, and meritocracy- not only increases public trust and strengthens political legitimacy but also creates the conditions for leveraging elite potential and human capital by curbing rent-seeking and structural corruption. Conversely, restricting freedoms can lead to the migration of elites, the weakening of sustainable development, and the accumulation of social grievances; a process that poses serious challenges to the state's stability in the long term. Consequently, the article concludes that freedom and human dignity are not threats to political authority but are, in fact, strategic mechanisms for consolidating legitimacy, preventing structural crises, and ensuring the coherent progress of societies.
