Generative Artificial Intelligence Capability and Organizational Innovation: The Mediating Role of Knowledge Creation and the Moderating Role of AI Governance

Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) has emerged as a transformative technology capable of reshaping organizational innovation processes, knowledge creation mechanisms, and competitive strategies. While organizations increasingly invest in GenAI technologies, limited understanding exists regarding how AI capabilities translate into innovation outcomes and what organizational conditions facilitate this transformation. Drawing upon the Resource-Based View, Knowledge-Based View of the Firm, and Dynamic Capability Theory, this study develops an integrated framework explaining the relationship between Generative AI capability and organizational innovation performance. Specifically, this research proposes that knowledge creation capability mediates the relationship between GenAI capability and organizational innovation performance, while AI governance moderates the effectiveness of GenAI capability in enhancing knowledge creation. A quantitative research methodology based on survey data and Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) is proposed. The findings are expected to demonstrate that Gen AI capability positively contributes to organizational innovation by strengthening knowledge creation processes. Furthermore, effective AI governance mechanisms are expected to enhance the organization's ability to convert AI resources into innovation outcomes. This study contributes to the emerging literature on artificial intelligence strategy by explaining the organizational mechanisms through which GenAI creates innovation value.
