چکیده مقاله:
According to History, general specifications and According to the definition provided by classification societies, the term "oil tanker" or its equivalent "ESP" refers to ships that hold a license/permit and are equipped with tanks that are necessary for the bulk transport of oil. This term refers to both single-hull tankers and double-hull tankers, as well as tankers with an alternative structural arrangement. The first oil tanker was built in ۱۸۸۶ with a tonnage of ۲,۳۰۰ tons; at the beginning of World War I, this figure reached ۸,۰۰۰ tons, and by ۱۹۶۹ it had increased to ۳۵۰,۰۰۰ tons. These tankers are usually divided into two groups: large and small tankers. Large tankers are, by standard, ۲۵۰,۰۰۰ tons and are devoted to transporting crude oil. Tankers with a capacity of about ۲۰,۰۰۰ to ۳۰,۰۰۰ tons are known as standard small tankers and are devoted to transporting petroleum products obtained from crude oil. Crude oil tankers have fewer tanks, whereas tankers carrying refined products have more tanks, with their number reaching up to ۹ tanks along the length of the ship; each tank is further divided into three sections. Note that the increase in the volume of tankers is not proportional to the increase in their capacity. For example, although a ۲۰۰,۰۰۰-ton large tanker has a capacity ۱۰ times greater than a ۲۰,۰۰۰-ton small tanker, its volume is only about two times greater.
