چکیده مقاله:
This study aimed to systematically examine the role of social media in the tendency toward extramarital relationships, with emphasis on psychological and cultural factors. Through a systematic review of ۷۸ scientific articles published between ۲۰۱۰-۲۰۲۳ in reputable databases (including PsycINFO, PubMed, and SAGE Journals), three primary mechanisms of social media influence were identified: Facilitating digital access to extramarital connections (by reducing search costs), Undermining marital satisfaction through idealized social comparison, Activating insecure attachment styles (anxious/avoidant). In Eastern cultural contexts, the concept of 'face-saving' plays a dual role: both as a deterrent (fear of scandal) and facilitator (use of fake accounts and coded language). Significant gender differences emerged: Iranian men predominantly use anonymizing tools, while women tend toward 'seemingly safe' platforms. Findings reveal social media functions as a double-edged sword - simultaneously exacerbating conflicts while offering opportunities to redefine digital-era relationships. This research highlights the need for culturally-sensitive intervention models that enhance couples' digital literacy while respecting privacy. We recommend family specialists incorporate media consumption assessments into therapeutic protocols as an innovative approach to preventing digital-age relational crises.
