چکیده مقاله:

Nurses often experience high psychological distress due to financial pressures and work-family conflict (WFC). This study investigates how financial contingency of self-worth (FCSW)—basing self-esteem on financial success—interacts with WFC to influence distress levels. A cross-sectional survey was conducted among ۲۵۰ registered nurses from five urban private hospitals and clinics in Tehran, Shahrekod, Mashhad and Yazd. Questionnaires encompassing FCSW, WFC, and psychological distress scales were distributed and after the verification of reliability and validity, the data were analyzed with PROCESS Module and showed that FCSW significantly predicted distress and WFC partially mediated the relationship between FCSW and psychological distress. The finding showed that more FCSW leads to more psychological strain via WFC, suggesting that financial self-esteem amplifies vulnerability to stress. The findings underscore the need for healthcare institutions to reduce WFC and encourage healthier, non-financial sources of self-worth. Addressing these factors through organizational support can enhance mental well-being and resilience in the nursing workforce.
