چکیده مقاله:

This study investigates the evolution of Qajar art in ۱۹th-century Iran, aiming to elucidate how socio-political dynamics and Western influences shaped its development, challenging the notion of artistic decline during this period. The research seeks to understand the synthesis of Persian traditions with European techniques and its implications for Iranian cultural identity. Employing a qualitative experimental design, the study analyzed a purposive sample of ۵۰ Qajar artworks, including paintings (e.g., gol-o-morgh, khiali-ngari) and printed materials (e.g., chap-e-sangi), sourced from historical archives and museum collections. Key procedures involved stylistic analysis, historical contextualization, and comparative evaluation against Safavid and Zand precedents, using visual and textual data from the thesis. Results revealed a significant shift toward realism and hybridity, with ۷۰% of sampled works exhibiting Western techniques like perspective and oil painting, adapted to local motifs and patronage demands. Royal portraits and religious iconography emerged as dominant themes, reflecting Qajar efforts to legitimize power amid modernization. The findings underscore Qajar art’s role as a dynamic bridge between traditional Persian aesthetics and modern practices, driven by political consolidation and cultural exchange. These insights reposition Qajar art as an innovative response to global influences, enriching art historical narratives beyond Eurocentric frameworks. Future research could expand the sample to include lesser-known regional works and compare Qajar developments with contemporaneous Ottoman or Mughal art to further validate the synthesis model proposed herein.
