چکیده مقاله:

Various psychological factors are considered in the process of learning English as a second or foreign language, with motivation being a critical element in shaping learners' success and persistence. This article examines aspects of the psychology of English language learning, focusing on motivation's pivotal role and the common barriers learners face. Motivation—whether intrinsic or extrinsic—drives learners to engage, apply effort, and achieve outcomes, helping them navigate challenges and persist in their studies. Conversely, psychological issues such as fear of mistakes, anxiety, lack of confidence, and cultural, cognitive, and systemic barriers can hinder progress. The article presents practical strategies to enhance motivation and overcome these obstacles, drawing on theories such as Gardner's socio-educational model, Self-Determination Theory (SDT), and Dörnyei's motivational framework. Strategies include fostering intrinsic motivation, creating supportive learning environments, leveraging technology, and promoting cultural immersion. Case studies and research insights further illustrate the effectiveness of these approaches in real-world language learning contexts. In conclusion, the article underscores the importance of understanding and addressing psychological factors to improve language acquisition and retention. It encourages educators and learners alike to adopt motivational techniques to achieve better learning outcomes.
