چکیده مقاله:

Student aspirations in Iran are influenced by various socio-economic, cultural, and institutional factors, particularly in rural areas where educational opportunities are often limited. This study examines the evolving challenges affecting student aspirations in rural areas of Lahijan and Rasht, Gilan Province, by analyzing data from ۵۱۲ students across ۲۱ schools, including elementary, middle, and high schools, over a ten-year period. Using a comparative cohort analysis, this research tracks students' academic ambitions, career goals, and barriers to educational attainment. Data were collected through surveys, structured interviews with students, parents, and teachers, and an assessment of educational policies. The findings reveal that economic hardship, lack of career counseling, insufficient educational infrastructure, and outdated curricula significantly hinder students’ ability to pursue higher education. Additionally, the digital divide has exacerbated educational inequalities, limiting students' access to online learning resources and modern skill development opportunities. To address these challenges, this study proposes a comprehensive intervention strategy. Key recommendations include modernizing rural school infrastructure, integrating career counseling into the curriculum, expanding financial aid and scholarship programs, and implementing digital learning initiatives to bridge the technology gap. Furthermore, strengthening partnerships between schools, local industries, and higher education institutions can provide students with clearer career pathways and skill-based training opportunities. In conclusion, revitalizing student aspirations in Iran’s rural areas requires structural educational reforms, targeted financial support, and stronger integration of technology in learning. By adopting these strategies, Iran can create a more inclusive and dynamic education system that fosters long-term academic and professional success. Future research should focus on longitudinal studies to measure the effectiveness of these interventions and explore region-specific policies tailored to the diverse educational needs of rural communities.
