Compare the Effects of Herbal with Medical Drug in PCOS Infertile Woman

Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), one of themost common causes of infertility due to anovulation, affects۴-۷% of reproductive women. The purpose of this study is tocompare the effect of nigella sativa + black pepper with letrozole+ tamoxifen as a treatment of infertile polycystic ovarysyndrome women .Materials and Methods: This comparative clinical trial wasdone on ۹۰ infertile PCOS women referred to Dr.rasekh clinicwith aged ۱۸-۴۲ years. Patients were randomly allocated to eithercase or control group. The control group prescribed letrozole+ tamoxifen and case group nigella sativa plus black pepperfrom third to eighth day of menstrual cycle .Transvaginalultrasound parameters including ovarian follicular size , numbersand endometrial thickness were measured during treatmentand based of this parameters continue these regimens and prescribedtrigger drug.Results: Pregnancy rate was higher in the group using nigellasativa plus black pepper and there was a significant relationshipbetween two groups (P<۰.۰۵). Also, there was a significant relationshipin endometrial thickness and dominant follicle size betweenthe two groups (P<۰.۰۵). No significant correlation wasfound between two groups in the incidence of OHSS (P>۰.۰۵)Conclusion: Because of significant effects of nigella sativa plusblack pepper regimen on increase of endometrial thickness andsize of dominant follicle , and eventually increase of pregnancyrates. Therefore, we recommend , this low costs, low side effectregimen in treatment of PCOS patients.
