چکیده مقاله:

Middle-aged people are at the starting point of falls-related injuries. Physical activity in middle age can prevent falls in the coming years by improving the performance of the factors involved in falling, including balance. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to evaluate the effects of Otago exercise on balance and risk of falling women middle aged with balance disorder. The current quasi-experimental study was performed on middle-aged women with balance disorder. The statistical population consisted of ۲۴ middle-aged women with balance disorder, which was performed in two groups of experimental (n₌۱۲, mean age₌ ۵۰.۶۷ ± ۵.۵۱ years) and control (n₌۱۲, mean age ₌۴۹.۷۵ ±۵.۲۴ years). The experimental group performed three sessions per week for ۸ weeks. The experimental group performed three sessions per week for ۸ weeks. In this study, Balance error test was used to determine balance disorder, static and dynamic balance and risk of falling, Sharpened Romberg test (with closed eyes), Y test and FES-I international fall efficiency questionnaire were used, respectively. To analyze the data, t-test and ANCOVA statistical methods were used in SPSS۱۶, with p ≤۰.۰۵.The results were of the current study showed that Otago exercises have a significant effect on balance and risk of falling middle-aged women with balance disorder. Also, a significant difference was observed between static balance (p₌۰.۰۰۱), dynamic balance (p₌۰.۰۰۱) and risk of falling (p₌۰.۰۰۳) between the experimental and control groups.Otago exercises seem to have a significant effect on balance and risk of falling middle-aged women with balance disorder; Therefore, due to the effectiveness of these exercises, it is recommended to use these exercises to prevent falls and improve balance.
