The effect of eight weeks of resistance training and vitamin D supplementation on the levels of antioxidant enzymes in the hippocampal tissue of old male Wistar rats

With age, the production of endogenous antioxidants decreases, which increases damage to various tissues of the body through more activity of free radicals and the formation of oxidative stress indicators. Therefore, The purpose of this research effect of eight weeks of resistance training and vitamin D supplementation on the levels of antioxidant enzymes in the hippocampal tissue of old male Wistar ratsThis study was an experimental study. The sample of this study included ۲۸ male ۱۸ months old Wistar rats were randomly divided into ۴ groups: resistance training (N= ۷), vitamin D supplementation (N= ۷), resistance training and vitamin D supplementation (N= ۷) and control (N= ۷). For the training group, the resistance program consisted of eight weeks of climbing a ladder with three training sessions per week with an intensity of ۶۵% to ۱۰۰% of their Maximum carrying capacity(MCC). Each session consisted of four or seven repetitions. ۴۸ hours after the last training session, hippocampal tissue were carefully separated and transferred to a -۸۰ ° C. Then, ELISA method was used to measure SOD and CAT levels.Hypotheses were tested at the significance level P<۰/۰۵.The results showed that eight weeks of resistance training had no significant effect on hippocampal SOD levels (P≥۰.۰۵). But it had a significant effect on the CAT hippocampus of rat (P<۰.۰۵). It was also shown that vitamin D had no significant effect on hippocampal SOD level (P≥۰.۰۵), but had a significant effect on CAT hippocampal level (P<۰.۰۵). On the other hand, in the exercise + vitamin D had no significant effect on hippocampal SOD levels (P≥۰.۰۵). But it had a significant effect on the CAT hippocampus of rat (P<۰.۰۵).Eight weeks of resistance training and vitamin D supplementation increased the CAT hippocampal level of old Wistar rats. But no significant change was observed in SOD hippocampal level of rats.
