Role of Architectural Structures in Tourism Development; Case Study: Palangan Village

Today, there is a new trend in architecture called "architecture for tourism". The value of the traditional architecture for achieving sustainable tourism is one of the most emphasized principles of architecture for tourism. In fact, the appearance of this new approach responds to the changes that have been made in the geography of the tourism market in the postmodern era, due to the changing needs and interests of tourists to unique destinations. Since the vernacular architecture of each region, reflects its unique economic, social, cultural and environmental characteristics, the main emphasis of architecture for tourism is the design and construction of attractive structures based on characteristics of vernacular architecture. In this regard, this study was conducted using a descriptive-analytical method. The data was collected from literature review as well as questionnaires distributed among ۱۰۰ tourists and experts in the field of tourism, architecture and geography in Palangan Village, Kurdistan. The results of the research showed that the design and construction of attractive structures based on vernacular architecture is capable of realizing the principle of uniqueness as well as satisfying the needs of residents and the welfare of tourists.
