چکیده مقاله:

The aim of this study is to examine the parents role in childrens personality development in terms various dimensions. Introduction The family environment, which is the child's first social environment, is critical in personality development. Many behaviors such as parents' attitudes, approaches to events, methods of solving problems, and communication preferences are absolutely observed by children. Children who constantly want to know the environment they live in observe the personality traits of their parents with whom they spend most of their time and imitate them over time. For this reason, parents are the first role models for children, and parents' attitudes towardstheir children are very important in childhood, when personality development is largely shaped. Social relationships of individuals who can establish healthy and satisfyingrelationships with their parents are also positively affected. Parents' attitudes in their relationships with their children can be grouped as democratic, protective and authoritarian in general. Authoritarian, overly protective or overly free family attitudes are negative; democratic attitudes can be evaluated positively. Attitudes other than democratic attitudes, which may prevent children from knowing and accepting themselves, can negatively affect the acquisition of self-confidence and self-esteem and, indirectly, personality development. Methods In the study primary and secondary literature review technique, one of the qualitative research methods, was used. In this research technique, existing information was collected by using researches and existing publications on the subject, and the obtained information was evaluated.ResultsCompared to the authoritarian and protective attitude, the democratic attitude is the most valid and effective attitude because it provides control and meets the various needs of children at reasonable levels. In a democratic attitude, children's personality development continues in a healthy way by allowing children to act and make some decisions within certain limits. In the foster parent attitude, many behaviors that children can do in the usual way due to excessive protection and supervision desire are performed by the parents. In this attitude where learning by living is restricted, parents constantly intervene without allowing children to make mistakes. In authoritarian attitude, parents want to be treated as they see fit, without taking into account the interests, needs and wishes of their children. In this attitude in which the personality traitsof their children are ignored, children who try not to make mistakes due to frequent punishment are deprived of the experience of learning by living. Conclusion Independent personality development in children was prevented due to the authoritarian attitude in which feelings and thoughts were mostly suppressed; especially in boys, it isthought that the level of aggression increases and the level of self-esteem decreases. Along with the fact that the attitudes of the parents are very important, it can be said that the parents are not the only influence on personality development, with the differentiation of the environment in which the child and the people he interacts with over time. Because of the recognition of people other than mother, father, siblings or relatives, the great effect of the family on personality development decreases over time, while the effect of play and school friendships and teachers begin to increase.
