In order to establish a drying schedule for Iranian Oak Wood (Quercus Castanifolia), experiment specimens were prepared from freshly felled trees. All lumber was sawn to the nominal thickness (32 mm.) and was separated into 3 groups. They were dried according to the T4D2, T4D3, and T5D3 schedules respectively; in a dry kiln with a capacity of approximately 2 cu .m. Specific gravity of Oak Wood was 0.579 g/cu. cm. and also its radial and tangential shrinkage was determined 6% and 10.4% respectively and it indicates that selection of T4D2 as a drying basic schedule was logical. Each charge contained 178 pieces and was dried from green to an average moisture content of 8 percent, according to the recommended moisture content for interior wood (Mc- Millen and Wengert, 1978). The drying defects measured were crook, bow, twist, and honeycomb. T5D3 schedule resulted in acceptable degree and lower kiln residence time than the others. Based on these favorable, further investigation on a larger scale is recommended.
