Provide a standard method for performing echocardiography in Beluga (Huso huso)

چکیده مقاله:

Among stugeos, Huso huso is valuable and endangered species in aqua culture inIran. To date, little studies have been conducted on the cardiovascular system ofsturgeons. Ultrasonography which is the method of choice for evaluating the heart inall the living animals can also be used in this fish. Anatomic knowledge of thecardiovascular system and echocardiography and its use in sturgeons are necessaryin these studies. This study was conducted to make a full understanding of theanatomic and echocardiographic characteristics of the heart in H. huso. In addition,the standard methods of Echocardiography i.e. approach, echogenicityandechotexture were noted in this specie. For the purpose of this study, 6 immatureH. huso were selected. For ultrasonography, Sonosite – MicroMaxx with linear probeand frequency of 6-12 MHz was used. The area of the dorsal to the pectoral fins andthe ventral surface between them was used longitudinally and transversely as theultrasonographic approach. The evaluation revealed the 4 main compartments ofheart. The position and relation of these compartments were examined. Venous sinushad thin walls and was leaning to the left. The Atrium wall was determined asconnective tissue and muscle. There was a valve-like structure between the atriumand venous sinus. Ventricle had a thick muscular wall which appeared to have twolayers. Conus arteriosus was leaning to the right and had three rows of valves, therewas some space between the two proximal rows and the distal row. Since there hasbeen not reported any anatomic or ultrasonographic study of the heart in this specie,this study can be a corner stone for further researches of this kind.
