Acute toxicity of Euphorbia turcomanica on Aphanius dispar

In this study the acute toxicity of the plant Euphorbia turcomanica wasassessed on Aphanius dispar. The LC50 was computed using probit analysisfor 24, 48, 72 and 96 h. The calculated LC50 for these times were obtained as0.28±0.14, 0.19±0.06, 0.14±0.03 and 0.11±0.02 g, respectively. The toxicityof aqueous extract of E. turcomanica exhibits a positive correlation betweenfish mortality and exposure periods. It is concluded that aqueous extract of E.turcomanica has a high piscicidal activity. Hence, adequate precautions mustbe exercised when E. turcomanica aqueous extract is being used near fishinhabitingwater reservoirs.
