Seasonal changes in some biological indices of female Geno tooth-carp, Aphanius ginaonis

The Geno tooth-carp, Aphanius ginaonis, is an endemic fish living in the Genogeyser. There is little information on this species as its distribution is exclusivelyrestricted to this region. Studying different aspects of the life cycle of this valuablefish is necessary for proper management. So, the seasonal changes in gonadosomaticindex (GSI), hepatosomatic index (HSI) as well as condition factor (K) were studiedin females. A total of 84 females were captured monthly between November 2012and October 2013. Results indicated that the lowest value of GSI in summer (7.24 ±0.30) but no significant difference was found in other seasons. The average of HSIwas significantly higher in spring (4.56 ± 0.17) than summer (3.69 ± 0.12) andautumn (3.84 ± 0.13) whereas it had no difference with winter (4.12 ± 0.19).Condition factor demonstrated a uniform trend throughout the year (1.50 ± 0.01). Theresults revealed that A. ginaonis is systems active reproductively in all seasons andthis species is a batch spawner.
