A study on skeletal abnormalities in goldfish (Carassius auratus) in the spring of Hamedan pirhayati village using digital radiography images

Goldfish (Carassius auratus) is an ornamental fish from the cyprinid family beingcultured extensively in Iran. In this study, 60 goldfish were caught using a seine net,with a mesh size of 2 mm, from the spring of Hamedan Pirhayati village, withgeographical position of 34 ° 1430.96N 48 ° 4634.70E elevation 1790 m andtransferred to the lab of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Tehran. Theclinical assessment of fish showed 10 clinical lesions. From mentioned fishes plus 2healthy fish, digital lateral and dorso-ventral radiographs were prepared. Study ofradiographs showed several lesions such as lordosis, scoliosis, kyphosis and shortmandible, posterior swim bladder cell depletion, and the complete lack of fin rays.The genetic problems, especially inbreeding of spawners, nutritional deficiencies andsome pollutants may be responsible for those malformations.
