چکیده مقاله:

Background and Objectives: Antibiotic susceptibility among pathogenic bacteria is one of the global problems. Increasing antibiotic resistance among bacteria can lead to failure of treatment.Escherichiacoli is gram-negative bacilli that is amember of the family Enterobacteriaceaethat causes diarrhea‚ food poisoning and hospital urinary tract infections. We studied the antibiotic susceptibility pattern of Escherichia colidetectedin urine samples of hospitalized patients in Golestan hospital in Ahvaz.Materials and Methods: Duringthe 5-month study (from January to June 2019), 311samples (174(56% ) of men and 137 ( 44 %)of women) were collected fromhospitalized patients in differentwardsof the Golestan Hospital in Ahvaz. Of these samples, 152 (48.9%) Escherichia coliisolates (79 (52%) isolates ofmen and 73 (48%) isolates of women),confirmed by biochemical tests, were obtained. Antibiotic susceptibility testing was performed by disk diffusion method and antibiotics were from different groups. The results were analyzed by descriptive statistics methods. Results: According to the results, the highest antibiotic resistance ofEscherichia coli was related to ceftriaxone(CRO) (76.9%) and the lowest resistance, was amikacin(AN) (22.3%). The other resistant wereto ampicillin (AM) (75%),ceftazidime antibiotic(CAZ) (65%), sulfamethoxazole + trimethoprim (SXT) (64.4%) and gentamicin(GM) (44.7%), respectively. Conclusion: In this study, amikacinwas identified as the most effective drug for the treatment of the majority of patients withurinary tract infection(UTI). It is recommended to use ceftriaxone more cautiously in the treatment of UTI.
