چکیده مقاله:

Introduction: The anal and perianal polypoid masses consist of rare malignant or benign mesenchymal tumors, uncommon non-epithelial non-mesenchymal neoplasms and tumorlike mass lesions. Above described lesions can be mimicked the common non-neoplastic causes of anal polypoid mass lesions, including anal tags, hemorrhoids and anal papillae. The present study was aimed to evaluate the histopathology characteristics of anal and perianal polypoid masses. Methods and materials: For this cross-sectional study data were evaluated from 350 anal and perianal specimens referred to pathology ward of our Hospital between february 2015 and November 2017. The data from these participants were obtained by a check list(age, gender, clinical presentation, duration of symptoms) and review of pathologic reports. Both descriptive and statistical analysis methods were applied. (P <0.05) Results: The age range was between 18 and 56 years with a mean age of 37 years. The male to female ratio was 1.7–1. The main clinical presentations were as following: asymptomatic polyps, pain, discomfort, tenderness, bleeding and discharge. The duration of symptoms in most number of patients ranged from days to months and only few individual for years. The pathologic features were as following: Granular cell tumor, lymphangioma, epidermoid inclusion cyst, lipoma, hidradenoma papilliferum, intradermal nevus, seborrheic keratosis, benign fibrous histiocytoma, hemorrhoidal veins and anal papillae. Conclusion: Some benign anal and perianal polypoid lesions are common lesions in other parts but rare as anal polyps, while others are rare but unique to the anal/perianal region. The physicians and pathologists at major gastrointestinal referral centers are much more likely to be familiar with these heterotopic phenomens.
