Translating Humor for Subtitled Persian Comedy Movies

In this paper, all efforts have been made to describe the types of strategies which employed in the Englishsubtitling of Persian comedy serial, titled Un-cashed Cheque . The data was gathered from observing thefirst four parts of the named serial with its English subtitle which was shown on Jame-Jam TV Network. TheTheoretical framework of this study was chosen based on taxonomy which is proposed by Gottlieb (1992) forsubtitling. The analysis of the gathered data indicated that all ten strategies were used by translator in theselected serial with some degree of variation except imitation , transcription and dislocation whichhad no recorded data. This research found that transfer strategy had the most usage among otherstrategies. Using transfer strategy causes that content and humor of Persian humorous expressions beingtransferred completely for target viewers.
