چکیده مقاله:

Introduction: Sexual dysfunction is one of the most serious problems that may occur in the postpartum period and can lead to physical, psychological, and social adverse effects in women. One of the factors that may affect the prevalence of sexual disorders in the postpartum period is the type of delivery. The present study surveys the Relationship between Mode of Delivery and Women s Sexual Function in six months after delivery. Methods: The participants in this cohort study were all nulliparous mothers aged 18 to 35 years referred to healthcare centers in Sanandaj (the capital city of Kurdistan province, Iran). The sample size the vaginal delivery with episiotomy and cesarean section, was 68 women. Sexual function was evaluated using the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) six months after delivery.Findings: According to findings, mean of age of units in vaginal delivery with mediolateral episiotomy and caesarean group were 26.65±3.95 and 28.2±5.11 respectively. Also most of samplings were housewife and had high school educational level and continued to breastfeeding after six months of delivery. There was no significant difference in women’s sexual function between the two groups before pregnancy (P = 0.9), however, six months after childbirth, both types of deliveries resulted in a significant reduction in sexual function. The vaginal delivery reduced sexual function more than the cesarean section (sexual function mean scores were 24.4 for vaginal delivery group and 26.8 for cesarean delivery, P: 0.01). Conclusion: Sexual function in cesarean section group was better than vaginal delivery group six months after delivery.
