چکیده مقاله:

Introduction: Vulvodynia is defined as vulval discomfort, most often described as a burning pain occurring in the absence of relevant visible findings such as infection(Bacterial and viral sexually-transmitted diseases, candidiasis, and urinary incontinence) or skin disease, or a specific, clinically identifiable neurologic disorder. The purpose of this study is to study the treatment methods of Vulvodynia.Methodology: This study was intended to be a review of papers published between 2014 and 2018 in such databases as Pubmed, Google Scholar, scoupose , etc. by using key words like vulvodynia, Vestibulodynia and treatment.Result: Vulvodynia is often multifactorial in origin thus amultidisciplinary approach to treatment should beconsidered. In addition treatment typically progresses from less invasive to more invasive. treatments for the management of vulvodynia is includes: General Skin Care,Topical Therapy(Lidocaine (2%-5%), cromolyn, capsaicin, nifedipine and steroid creams, emu oil), Oral Medications(Tricyclic antidepressants (amitriptyline, nortriptyline) and anticonvulsants (gabapentin, pregabalin)), Injectable Medications(corticosteroids, Botulinum toxin ), psychological interventions(Both cognitive behavioural therapy and supportive psychotherapy), pelvic floor physical therapy(a kegel’s manoeuvre,a reverse kegel’s manoeuvre and superϐicial perineal massage), electromyography (EMG) , Trigger point pressure, Transcutaneous electric nerve stimulation(TENS), hypnotherapy , acupuncture and vestibulectomy (for provoked vestibulodynia) and topical monotherapy. However Research suggests that there is no consistently effective standardized treatment for vulvodynia. There is evidence of a placebo effect.Discussion and conclusion: Vulvodynia is a poorly understood, prevalent, and serious women s health issue requiring better understanding to improve therapy. Overall results indicate that these treatments may lead to significant improvements in pain and sexual functioning in these women. Although, more comprehensive studies are needed.
