Non-destructive Crack Detection Using Genetic Algorithms

Crack is one of the usual and important damages in mechanical and structural systems. Non-destructive inspection techniques are fast and cheap methods which are used for health monitoring and early crack detection. In this paper a new on-line and non-destructive inspection method is presented. Our method utilizes genetic algorithms for monitoring the possible changes in the natural frequencies of the system. The obtained results show that the method is very satisfactory.
