چکیده مقاله:
Introduction and Objectives: There is growing evidence that viral infections may contribute to male fertility disorders either by direct toxic effects on cells in the reproductive tract or by induction of immunological response. The role of herpes viruses such as Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) in male factor infertility remains obscure. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of EBV infection in the semen of infertile men in comparison with fertile men. There is growing evidence that viral infections may contribute to male fertility disorders either by direct toxic effects on cells in the reproductive tract or by immunological reactions that adversely affect reproductive functionThere is growing evidence that viral infections may contribute to male fertility disorders either by direct toxic effects on cells in the reproductive tract or by induction of immunological response. The role of herpes viruses such as Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) in male factor infertility remains obscure. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of EBV infection in the semen of infertile men in comparison with fertile men.Material and methods: In this study 150 semen sample of fertile and 150 semen‟s sample of infertile men consecutively were include. All samples subjected to commercial DNA extraction. The presence of EBV DNA in extracted samples was analyzed by using in house PCR assay.Result: Mean age of fertile men was 34.5 and mean of age for infertile men was 34.4. None of the semen samples of fertile and infertile men were positive for the presence of EBV DNA. ConclusionThe results of our study were shown that DNA fragment of EBV were not present in any of semen samples. Therefore, probably, there is no association between EBV and fertility.
