چکیده مقاله:

After more than two decades, Iranian community of EFL teachers in public sector experienced a national important change in terms of classroom material, assessment, and teacher education in 2012. Focusing on the latter item, the main concern of this study is on applicability and usefulness of teacher training courses (TTC) held in Tehran by the Iranian ministry of education. Some teachers were chosen from each province of Iran based on their experience to participate in the TTC. Their duty was to cascade the course for other teachers in the province or districts. The effectiveness of such a course can to some extent guarantee the success of current fundamental changes in EFL curriculum. To study the effectiveness of those teacher training courses, 50 teachers who participated in the course were chosen randomly they were asked to participate in an interview with open ended questions. 4 teachers refused to be interviewed. After the interview, the data obtained were qualitatively analyzed. Several teachers have stated that the TTC was not practical. Others thought that instead of reviewing theories, presenting practical techniques can be a good idea. One interesting finding is that most teachers thought that the TTC was too short and they needed more training. These results further support the idea of designing a more practical course that lead teacher to correct practice.
