چکیده مقاله:

This study examines the chemical composition of Astragalus sp. fruits essential oil, and evaluates the antimicrobial activities of fruits on various plant pathogens. The essential oil of Astragalus sp. fruits was analyzed by GC/MS. Antimicrobial activity was tested against 14 microorganisms, including eight bacteria and six fungi, using disk diffusion method and MIC technique. The Astragalus sp. fruits were also subjected to screening for possible antioxidant activity by using DPPH assay. The major constituents of the essential oil were α-Pinene (18.41%), Humulene epoxide II (12.84%), and α-Humulene (11.81%). The essential oil showed significant activity against Staphylococcus aureus (MIC = 50 μg/mL) and Pyricularia oryzae (MIC = 12.5 μg/mL). In addition, the free radical scavenging capacity of the essential oil was determined with an IC50 value of 146.59 μg/mL. Our results suggest that this plant may be a potential source of biocide, for economical and environmentally friendly disease control strategies.
