Investigating of genotype and pathotype properties of isolated Newcastle disease virus (NDV) in Middle East and Europe

Newcastle disease virus, the causative agent of Avulavirus, is a major domestic and wild bird’s pathogen. Virus has global distribution and it is too difficult to find virus-free area. Based of former researches, various genotypes of virus may frequently exist in specific geographical area and surprisingly affect specific bird species. In this study, we focused on gaining a fundamental understanding of possible link between circulating virus strains in terms of genotype and pathogenicity properties, type of host, and the region-specific occurrences of isolated virus. Due to have precise monitoring, we decided to limit our targeted area. Only isolated NDVs that were reported in Middle East and Europe countries were involved in research. Our results showed that the majority of NDV s genotypes belong to the class II and genotypes III, IV, V, VI, and VII. And also VII was predominant genotype of NDV. In addition, velogenic form of disease mostly were reported. In addition, genotype VII mostly associated with serious and lethal infections in both domestic and industrial poultry. And also genotype VI was isolated from other bird species like pigeon. Genotype IV has less rate of distribution among several hosts and it only was reported in domestic fowl of Europe. Collectively, the data presented in this survey have further extended our general knowledge of the NDV strains dissemination. Due to lack of specific virus drug, Vaccination is still first and important step for protection against of disease. It seems these information help us to choose suitable vaccine for protection and control of disease.
