چکیده مقاله:

Procurement-oriented problems are usual in petrochemical mega projects in Iran, unavoidably resulting in contractual claims and increased project time and cost. This study was aimed, first, at collecting the perceptions of petrochemical projects practitioners on how significant are the procurement-oriented problems; and, second investigating whether the recommendations stated by the said practitioners are applicable to and effective at mitigating the corresponding problems with reference to a ranking order established using the mean score method. It was also observed that problems related to external issues (especially those of financial aspects) had the most significance and problems related to human behavior had the least significance in the procurement process of petrochemical mega projects. It is believed that the findings can provide much more insight for the petrochemical mega projects practitioners as well as the researchers and thus help to improve the productivity and overall performance of the procurement processes of these projects in Iran.
