The effect of angle packings on the wet pressure drop: Experimental study

Experimental studies are conducted to investigate the effect of angle between structured packings. In the present effort, extensive consideration is given to the construction of a new wire gauze structure packing through hydrodynamic analysis. The specific surface area and free volume are increased in the new structured packing (PACK-2100) to enhance the pressure drop and separation efficiency. The comprehensive parametric studies are performed to evaluate wet pressure drop in different operating conditions. Our findings show that this new structured packing approximately reduces wet pressure drops more than 25% in comparison with traditional packing with the same specific surface area (Dixon- 1/8). Also, the results show that the effect of angle packings on the pressure drop is not notable. The present experimental data demonstrate the new contribution of a PACK-2100 in the high efficiency systems with a low separation factor.
