چکیده مقاله:
In present research, the effect of teaching reading strategies on students’ translation proficiency has been investigated. To attain this goal, 50 participants have been homogenized and selected based on a reading comprehension test. Then they were assigned to control and experimental groups (each of which contains 25 students). The second pretest (a translation test) was administered to both groups. Then the experimental group received the treatment (six reading strategies containing paragraph heading, understanding references, recognizing main point, guessing the meaning of unknown vocabulary, punctuation marks, and summarizing) and the control group received the placebo. During six-session experiment, four reading strategies were taught and eight different texts were worked on regarding the strategies. At the end of the treatment the final test was administered. The result of T-Test shows that the experimental group performed significantly better than the control one in the post test. Likewise, the results concerning the second research question displayed that recognizing main point and understanding references have been used more than other strategies.
