The Effectiveness of Teaching the Internal Locus of Control –BasedCommunicational Skills on Increasing Marital Adjustment

In this paper, the effectiveness of teaching the internal locus of control –basedcommunicational skills on increasing marital adjustment has been investigated. The researchdesign was pretest- posttest with control group. Statistical population of this research includes350 married students of Farhangiyan university of Babol. To determine the sample, initially350 questionnaires of Rotter's locus of control and Spanier's marital adjustment weredistributed among the married students. Although originally almost 350 questionnaires weredistributed by the researcher, 244 were returned, and 200 questionnaires were appropriate foranalysis. Among this Population, 47 couples both had external Locus of control and sufferedmarital maladjustment, 20 couples were selected by simple randomized method and wereplaced into two experimental and control groups, such that 10 couples were placed in theexperimental group and 10 couples were placed in control group. Data was analyzed using theindependent T-test method. Research results showed that teaching communicational skillsbased on internal locus of control was effective on decreasing marital maladjustment and wasable to increase the levels of marital adjustment, satisfaction, cohesion and affection betweenthe couples. Teaching intervention based on internal control can be used as one of theintervention models for couples who suffer from marital dissatisfaction and think of divorce
