Experiences in ESI Privatisation, Overseas Transmission Projects and Acquisions

The paper reviews experiences and changes which have occurred over the past ten years following privatisation of the Electricity Supply Industry in the United Kingdom, with particular emphasis being placed on the National Grid Company, plc (NGC). Changes to NGC's role and comparisons with other models for re-structuring being adopted within other ESIs worldwide are discussed. In this respect, NGC's activities in providing practical assistance to other worldwide utilities are described. The paper provides an explanation of NGC's strategy towards overseas projects including development of transmission and the acquisition of transmission and distribution assets t hrough shared ownership.
